APIA PORT BREAKWATER RECONSTRUCTION

چکیده
Samoa is located in the South Pacific Ocean, about halfway between Hawaii and New Zealand. The first wharf at Apia (185m long) was constructed 1966 a 100m long breakwater with 8t Dolos armor units 1988-89 to provide shelter. Following large cyclones early 1990s, rehabilitated 1996 larger 20t units. In 2003 solid concrete crown wall added mitigate wave transmission into harbor. There limited toe scour protection multiple have broken legs, cracks rust stains from corroding steel reinforcement. design intent of upgrading project improve resilience extreme climatic natural disaster events. Reconstructing higher crest, roundhead, new units, support apron selected as most appropriate option meet criteria. Physical modelling undertaken verify optimize design. Wave calibration indicated good correlation numerical showed that for offshore heights ~11.5m greater near structure height depth (Hs ~9.1m). physical model testing existing on rear slope are unstable under 1percent AEP event base rock support. Further using 16m3 Xblocs leeside which successful detailed completed accordingly.

Two-port approached thoracoscopic carina reconstruction using natural bronchial bifurcation
BACKGROUND Carina resection and reconstruction is a challenging procedure for thoracic surgeons. We describe a novel technique of thoracoscopic carina reconstruction using the natural bifurcation, following pulmonary resection of the lung neoplasm. To our knowledge, it is the first report of this kind. CASE PRESENTATION A 71-year-old male diagnosed of squamous cell lung cancer received two-po...
متن کاملArtificial Intelligence and Rubble-Mound Breakwater Stability
Breakwaters are coastal structures constructed to shelter a harbour basin from waves. There are two main types: rubble-mound breakwaters, consisting of various layers of stones or concrete pieces of different sizes (weights), making up a porous mound; and vertical breakwaters, impermeable and monolythic, habitually composed of concrete caissons. This article deals with rubble-mound breakwaters....
متن کاملInspection and Diagnosis of Sines’ West Breakwater
A set of tools that is being developed for the automated inspection of rubble-mound breakwaters, as well as its application to the survey of Sines' west breakwater armour layer, are described. The results from the IRIS surveys are compared to those of the surveys carried out by the Portuguese Hydrographic Institute and first assessment of the structure evolution between 2000 and 2003 is made.
متن کاملForced Motions of a Rigid-Body Breakwater
Now the last and most realistic problem will be investigated. This problem treats the breakwater as a rigid body that undergoes periodic wave forcing. This problem is the most realistic because a breakwater truly has physical dimensions in reality and would behave as a rigid body. Furthermore, if a breakwater is in the sea, then it will feel the effects of waves acting on it and not just the ef...
متن کاملInteraction-Centric Modelling for Interactive Virtual Worlds: The APIA Approach
Conceptual modelling studies the different abstraction methods of the real world. The conception and the execution of virtual worlds depend strongly of the type of conceptual models. Existing modelling methods such as object-oriented modelling are not appropriated when the main concern is the dynamic reusability and interoperability. Such a reusability and interoperability must be free of any h...
